At Odds With A Heart

Hello again everyone. I hope these words find you all in great health, and even better spirits. And, tt's that time that you all hopefully look forward to. I'm back again with a new poem. This one was a bit of a battle; but, it's also one that I'm glad that I undertook. Because after I completed the poem, I suddenly realized that I had unintentionally written a part two of sorts to a poem I wrote a few months ago. That poem, The Littlest Of Lies, was about a man who trying to convince the woman he loved that he had changed, as was no longer the man that people were claiming that he was. But the woman was past the point of being fed up with their entire situation. Almost akin to that old R. Kelly song, "When A Woman's Fed Up." But this new poem, which is called, "At Odds With A Heart," turned out to be the other side of that particular, metaphoric coin. This one is from the perspective of a person who is not necessarily naive, but rather has been hurt so much, they are avoiding anything that will ruin what they perceive as a blissful relationship. And in the end, they may or may not find out how wrong they were. So now, enough of my rambling. Here it is. Hopefully you all will enjoy it. And as always feel free to leave your comments, thoughts, and/or constructive criticisms in the section below. And thank you all for reading this. It means more than you will ever know.
Thank you all so very much.

"At Odds With A Heart"
2013

You can take away my reason
And never tell me why
And you can give me only blues
I'll just mistake it for the sky
Then you can say no other grass
Gets greener by the week
And I'll never climb the fence
To take myself a peek
But you have to say my name
If I'm asking who you love
And I will look at you
Like you were sent from up above
And you have to promise me
That you will never change
'Cause babe I'd lose my mind
If you started acting strange
'Cause the moment someone says
That you can't have something
It becomes the only note
Your heart'll wanna sing
And then you'll have to reconcile
The growing space between
The person in your arms
With the person in your dreams
Babe, you often talk of futures
When the present's still in view
While others use the past
To show what you are prone to do
Like they were tasked to read a list
Of history's greatest crimes
That you were guilty of
At least far too many times
But I just can't figure out
Whose word I should take
'Cause it's the kind of choice
That could cause a heart to break
Should I trust the ones who love me
Or should I trust the one I love
Who's never done me wrong
And placed no one else above
And who will still say my name
If I'm asking who you love
And I'll still look at you
Like you were sent from up above
Because you promised me
That you would never change
Knowing that I would lose my mind
If you started acting strange
'Cause the moment someone says
That you can't have something
It becomes the only note
Your heart'll wanna sing
And then you'll have to reconcile
The growing space between
The person in your arms
With the person in your dreams
And now the whispers are growing
To noisy roars inside my ears
And they're intent on resurrecting
The most buried of my fears
But if you tell me that they're lies
I'd believe your every syllable
And ignore the proof before my eyes
Of all the shit you'd pull
But really who am I to judge
When you've never done this to me
Knowing if I continued to nudge
I may find myself in misery
But when you're so deep in love
It gets much harder to see
And I've found out how tough
Ignoring logic could be
Because I have a working mind
That's at odds with my heart
And the things that I've come to find
May just tear me apart
So if there's someone up there
That's still hearing my cries
Please keep your divine source of truth
I prefer to keep living these lies
If you'll still say my name
When I ask who do you love
And I'll still look at you
Like you were sent from above
Because you promised me
That you would never change
Knowing that I would lose my mind
If you started acting strange
'Cause the moment someone says
That you can't have something
It becomes the only note
Your heart'll wanna sing
And then you'll have to reconcile
The growing space between
The person in your arms
With the person in your dreams
And if I am truly sleeping
Know that I don't want to wake
'Cause there's only so much drama
My poor heart can take...

An Imagined Nation

Hello everyone. It's that time again. Back with another poem. And to be honest, this one was a battle. It took a few different sittings, and caused some real frustration at times, but in the end, I think it turned out for the better. Although, with me being my own harshest critic, I'm not sure if I'm completely satisfied with it. So it may end up being revisited. But as far as the content of the poem, it was inspired by an amazing woman named Ongelle. This is isn't the first poem I've written about her, but it is the latest, lol. See, I've always believed that if a person dominates your thoughts, then that person means more to you than you may be willing to admit. Luckily, I have no such compunctions. But having said that, I always try to express myself in a more poetic fashion. So this poem, which is called, "An Imagined Nation," is about her. The person who dominates my thoughts. And the title is a bit of a play on words. The poem is basically saying that if my imagination was an actual place, or an imagined nation, than it would be her that rules the land, and it would be her that sits upon the throne.  And the poem goes on to describe the sometimes, otherworldly state of my imagination, as well revealing some of the things I've imagined doing to my imagined queen. And also, as I said, this isn't the first poem I've written about her. So I even threw in a reference to my first poem about her. After you're done reading this one, you can click the reference and read the other. But enough of my rambling, lol. Here it is, in all its' glory. Hopefully, she likes it. And if I'm lucky, it won't be just her, but you all as well, that have enjoyed reading this poem. Take care everyone. Thanks for reading. It means far more than you will ever know.

"An Imagined Nation"

Darling, imagine if you will
A vast display of land
And the sun is touching every place
A man could surely stand
Then imagine that this place
Was locked deep inside a mind
That was like the rabbit hole of lore
With wonders for you to find
Would you drink the offered tea
To help swallow chosen pills
Or would you take the hookah for a whirl
To see if you could feel the thrills
Would you see how far the path
Laid before you has to go
Or shall I stop talking backwards
And tell you all you need to know
See, I've wanted you for years
And thought about you through the days
Imagined every way to bend you
And leave you feeling just amazed
But it seems as if the weeks
Have dwindled down to hours
Yet we've still gained eternity
Inside this bed of ours
'Cause in my imagined nation
You've been ruling for some time
And your grace has struck me silent
Like some phantom pantomime
And if there's a wall between us
I best prepare to climb
'Cause all I needed was a reason
To do away with rhyme
For words are pleasing to the ear
But they seldom leave a mark
Unless they're laced with threats
That bite far worse than they bark
But there's no violence here
Leaving plenty room for sex
Mixed with a touch of profanity
And our hands around each other's necks
As you look me in the eyes
And beg me not to stop
I know that inside the hourglass
A million grains have dropped
While I'm rocking back and forth
And moving steady like the tide
Just to delight the warmest shore
That I have ever been inside
'Cause see, I've wanted you for years
And thought about you through the days
Imagined every way to bend you
And leave you feeling just amazed
But it seems as if the weeks
Have dwindled down to hours
Yet we've still gained eternity
Inside this bed of ours
'Cause in my imagined nation
You've been ruling for some time
And your grace has struck me silent
Like some phantom pantomime
And if there's a wall between us
I best prepare to climb
'Cause all I needed was a reason
To do away with rhyme
And now I've rolled you on your side
So I can get a better view
Of each expression that you wear
As you enjoy each thing I do
And we're capsized in the sheets
Like our sea has donned a veil
Hoping we could resurrect a love
As I slowly drive this final nail
But we're both powerless to fight
This every urge we have
While leaving marks upon our skin
And sharing moans and then a laugh
Wondering how we ever went so long
Without reaching current heights
As we tolerated solitude
For what seemed like endless nights
But still I've wanted you for years
And thought about you through the days
Imagined every way to bend you
And leave you feeling just amazed
But it seems as if the weeks
Have dwindled down to hours
Yet we've still gained eternity
Inside this bed of ours
'Cause in my imagined nation
You've been ruling for some time
And your grace has struck me silent
Like some phantom pantomime
And if there's a wall between us
I best prepare to climb
'Cause all I needed was a reason
To do away with rhyme
Girl, if my imagination was a place
Folks could visit now and then
They would surely see your face
On the monuments within
And every portrait that was framed
Would have value not a price
And they would surely bare your name
In a fashion that's precise
But I wonder if you'd call for God
With your hair inside my hand
Or if I grabbed the flesh upon your hips
As hard as you could stand
Before thrusting into you
With love and hate combined
And I wonder if the name upon your breath
Would sound a lot like mine
'Cause I've waited here for years
And thought about you through the days
Imagined every way to bend you
And leave you feeling just amazed
But it seems as if the weeks
Have dwindled down to hours
Yet we've still gained eternity
Inside this bed of ours
'Cause in my imagined nation
You've been ruling for some time
And your grace has struck me silent
Like some phantom pantomime
And if there's a wall between us
I best prepare to climb
'Cause all I needed was a reason
To do away with rhyme...
