A Hope In Need Of Repair

My mind works in mysterious ways sometimes, lol. Take this poem for example. Awhile back, I had an uplifting conversation with an incredibly beautiful person by the name of Arlene. I'm proud to consider her a friend. And we were exchanging messages online, (since we live on opposite sides of the country), and she was filling out some survey questionaire kind of thing. And I remember vividly that she told me that one of my best features were my eyes. Because they seem so kind but for some reason there was a sadness deep within them, and she didn't understand why. And one day, many, many months later, I recalled that conversation and got inspired to write. And what you read here, is what I wrote that day.

A special thanks to Arlene Victoria for being an incredible muse, and an even better friend.

"A Hope In Need Of Repair"
2011

A friend once said to me,
"There is a sadness in your eyes
And it's as if the only thing you ever see
Is beauty when it dies.
But there must be more to this look
Than the bad days in your past
'Cause it's as if you do believe
That they will forever last
And friend, I have no other choice
But to loudly disagree
'Cause I have seen with my own eyes
Just how great a life can be
So I hope you'll finally see an end
To the black clouds overhead
Otherwise they'll slowly sap
Your happiness instead
And the you I used to know
Would share his laughter and a smile
But from the look upon your face
I can tell it's been awhile
Since you ever thought of me
And the times we used to share
And you've grown colder to the touch
'Cause you think no one has ever cared
But again I'll have to disagree
Though I only speak for self
'Cause there's nothing more I'd rather see
Than an improvement to your health
And I do refer to every kind
Not just the obvious
'Cause honestly it wasn't far
That your old way's gotten us
So you should try another way
To see a change inside your life
Instead of living as a monument
And testament to strife
'Cause I know there's many things
For which you're capable to do
You'd only have to want to start
And use resolve to see it through
But it seems you'd be content
To just rest in the same old place
And have your current bitterness
Stay and leave the same old taste
It's like your mind's a barren land
Where pride it does decay
And yet the seeds of doubting things
Are still growing well today
Yet you think we're all the same
And we won't extend a hand
Since your position's beyond our reach
And you're still sinking in the sand
But if this place is so damn great
Won't you pull me down below
Offer me no more complaints
Just show me all you have to show
And then I believe you'd be inclined
To maybe spit me out
And then resume your talking down
As if that's what life's about
And you're a fool for doing anything
Besides living each and every day
That we're so very blessed to see
As the sun drives the night away
And friend, I don't believe in blaming God
For your current, wretched state
Instead I pray you will see the way
And He'll help to clean your slate
But if you need some more advice
Or if you need to see a smile
You should feel free to call
And I'll make it worth your while
But until that day finally comes
Please try to take a little care
Because the way it sounds to me
That your hope just needs repair
And know you're not the only one
To feel like their hurt is justified
It's just, the Clyde that I once knew
Well, he must have died...
...And I miss him dearly."

  1. Amazing! There is so much depth in your eyes, if you only take to time to see you for who you truly are.

    1. Thank you, Arlene. Nowadays, I'm really trying to see it. But most of the time, it feels like the effort is futile.
