"Learned To Lack"
2011
There's a laundry list of things
That I once wished to say
But doubt came crawling in
To steal my words away
But if I ever found the strength
To say just how I feel
Girl, I'd have to know if you
Could tell I was for real
Darling, open up your eyes
And shine that blue my way
Because deep inside my skies
All I ever see is gray
And when clouds come rolling in
And that sky just turns to black
I hope you'll look the past the things
That I haven't learned to lack
There's a laundry list of things
I once wished to do to you
But my disappointment sings
The same old song that's true
About a boy who loves a girl
But that girl loves somebody else
And he tried to change her mind
But got caught up in a mess
Everytime she opened up her eyes
And shine that blue his way
Because deep inside his skies
All he ever saw was gray
And when clouds come rolling in
And that sky just turned to black
She didn't look the past the things
That he never learned to lack
So now there's a laundry list of things
That this foolish boy regrets
And yes his disappointment sings
Every time this girl forgets
To open up her eyes
And shine that blue his way
Because deep inside his skies
All he ever saw was gray
And when clouds come rolling in
And that sky just turned to black
She didn't look the past the things
That he never learned to lack
Listen and I will sing it clear
This boy was a victim of his fear
Seems he couldn't live without
Playing victim to his doubts
And it was his lack of self-esteem
That stopped his chasing of a dream
And that girl saw every bit of this
And so she never kissed his lips
Nor did she ever open up her eyes
And shine a shade of blue his way
Because deep inside his broken skies
All he ever chose to see was gray
And when the clouds come rolling in
And that sky just turned to black
He could never look the past the things
That he felt others thought he lacked.
