End Of Summer

"End Of Summer"
2007

Now as we near the end of summer

I feel as cold as ever
As cold as the one who once was loved
And rejected never
But has long since felt
His unfrozen heart melt
And be recast as the knife
Inserted into his back
But the ones he had come to love
The ones beneath the rock he rose above
Their heads to let them feel the light
Of things he'd done and felt were right
Oh, how ungrateful the many have become.
Now as we near the end of summer
The sun is as overbearing as you
As hot as the one who once was cold
In a heated room with a sweater wearing few
But has long since felt
The ozone melt
And have the heat come pouring in
Like the flood of emotions
He felt when you confessed that you're adoring
One who doesn't look like him.
Oh summer, you are a disloyal mistress.
Now as we near the end of summer
I prefer the winter's hand
Because her actions were always cold
There were no mysteries to understand
Autumn let her leaves fall for me
But you pretend to shine as bright
As the sun does in the early hours
Same as the smiling moon at night
But alas you are far from the season spring
The time where flowers bloom and sparrows sing
No my dear you are the summer.
Burning everything you touch
Leaving a piles of ash in such
A manner that people think you are a saint
A beautiful picture they helped the creator paint
But you are nothing more than smeared designs
A child who used to fear what was kept behind
Their closet door during a childhood past
And that innocence was like the seasons,
My dear they never last.
So now I say farewell to you summer.
I welcome winter.
For her kiss tastes much better than yours.
And she never leaves her intentions behind the doors.
Like the ones in my home, where you kept your baggage stored.
Farewell dear summer.
For I, like autumn, am falling for winter.
Because her touch mirrors my heart
It is cold to the touch.
And once you're frozen stiff
I will push you away and watch you fall apart
