A Conformist Prayer

"A Conformist Prayer"
2011

Sitting at my cubicle
Just in front a flashing screen
My number was finally pulled
To meet with the power team
Gave me documents to shred
Or said my career was dead
So I thought of my kids in their bed
With these words ringing in my head
I was told that it's divine
To find my place in line
And if my mouth stays closed
I may be the one that's chose
To take a place right by their side
And I only have to lose my pride
And I said yes without a care
'Cause God had answered my prayer
Now the cross Christ chose to bear
Is on this nifty tie I wear
'Cause I made the same sacrifice
And I did it for a hefty price
Six figures and a brand new Benz
Ignoring what my bosses spend
And with this much who needs a loan
I could make your soul my own
I was told that it's divine
To find my place in line
And if my mouth stays closed
I may be the one that's chose
To take a place right by their side
And I only have to lose my pride
And I said yes without a care
'Cause God had answered my prayer
My soul's stock is hitting lows
But this is the path I chose
You can judge me if you want
But it's not a crime if you don't get caught
So you can turn your nose
But the name that's on my clothes
Means that I'm in the upper class
And it's you that I can look past
I was told that it's divine
To find my place in line
And if my mouth stays closed
I may be the one that's chose
To take a place right by their side
And I only have to lose my pride
And I said yes without a care
'Cause God had answered my prayer
