The Heaviest Of Heads

"The Heaviest Of Heads"
2011

If my written words were waves
In an ocean of intent
Then it's no surprise your shore
Is where they often went
For I've always longed to be
The place on which you chose to rest
After you dropped the heavy anchor
That resides within your chest
But they say the heaviest of heads
Always sits beneath the crown
But after everything is said
It's your heart that weighs you down
'Cause it truly is your compass
And helps you find your way
But you can lay it down for once
And not save this world today
Darling there will be a time
When they have to save themselves
Because apathy's the reason
They dug the grave themselves
But I will never try to stop you
From caring in the least
When it's your suffering for them
That I truly aim to cease
'Cause the day you fail to help them
Is when the blame will lay
Squarely at the doorstep
From which they were never turned away
And they you'll be a martyr
For the most beautiful of sins
Like trying to make your means
Finally justify their ends
And they say the heaviest of heads
Always sits beneath the crown
But after everything is said
It's your heart that weighs you down
'Cause it truly is your compass
And helps you find your way
But you can lay it down for once
And not save this world today
But I won't discourage your courage
Nor will I ever seek to impead
This righteous sort of life
You've made the choice to lead
But it's okay to take a day
To devote just to you
After you feel that your mission
Has been seen until it's through
And I'll still praise your resolve
'Cause your actions have shown
The price for sacrifice
And the strength of flesh and bone
And if there truly is a God
He can look down from His cloud
'Cause I'll still look to you
And say these words aloud
They say the heaviest of heads
Always sits beneath the crown
But after everything is said
It's your heart that weighs you down
'Cause it truly is your compass
And helps you find your way
But you can lay it down for once
And not save this world today
But yet I once believed
The heaviest of heads
Always sat beneath the crown
But this point of view collapsed
And fell down to the ground
'Cause this darling girl has proved
That you can take your mind
And help this world to move
But it may take some time
And since this ungrateful world
Will never say the words
I will show the gratitude
That this darling girl deserves
And it's on this chair I'll wait
Until her cape is laid to rest
Because it's fairly obvious
She'll never sacrifice...
The shining light within her chest...
