Everything Burns
"Everything Burns"
2011
I know what occurs for others,
Won't ring true for all
Some people get to fly,
While others get to fall
But you got your happy ending,
Minus twists and turns
'Cause in your world hope shines
But in my world it burns
So you may think you're perfect,
And I may think you're right
But it won't stop my need,
To set this world alight
So fuse may turn to flame,
And objects turn to ash
As you see the man you knew,
Vanish in a flash
And it takes greater strength to stay
Than it does to walk away
But friend I'm of the mind,
You need more than strength today
You need to have the valor
To strike the match and smile
As the smell of gasoline
Draws another to the pile
And they may think they're perfect,
And I may think they're right
But it won't stop my need,
To set this world alight
So fuse may turn to flame,
And objects turn to ash
But you'll see the man you knew,
Vanish in a flash
People around me often say
That fret's what they won't do
But when I hear their fairy tales
I just feel like I want to
Suffocate their harmony
And vandalize their picket fence
Tear away their inner peace
Until they use their better sense
'Cause I'm drowning in my apathy
Without room for faith
And if you want to save my soul
Baby, it's not worth the wait
Because I'm so far from perfect,
That my wrongs start looking right
And I just can't stop my need,
To set this world alight
So fuse may turn to flame,
And objects turn to ash
'Cause it's the man you knew,
That must vanish in a flash
For he has lived too long
With the bitterness within
And this pessimist's resolve
Has worn more than a little thin
So he starts spewing venom
Hoping to burn anything in reach
And to help the foolish people learn
The lessons misery can teach
Because life has taught him,
That he's so far from perfect,
His wrongs start looking right
And you just can't stop his need,
To set this world alight
So fuse may turn to flame,
And objects turn to ash
But it's the gentle man you knew,
That has vanished in a flash...
