Go For The Gold

"Go For The Gold"
2012

That brighter shade of bronze
Is what nobody wants
And nobody's showing off
'Cause nobody ever taunts
Unless they're on the top
Unless they've never dropped
And only chased the finish line
When they heard the pistol pop
But who are you to say
You know the only way
That I should stop and roll
Just to push the flames away
Should I hold my tongue
'Til Jacob's fabled rung
Replaced the mighty edge
From which I might've hung
You're better than everyone
Just because you know the son
Who might not've even lived beneath the sun
But I know your little goal
Is to save my little soul
So you'll never stop until you get the gold
But when the meek and meager meet
And rest their weary feet
Will paradise ever feel as sugar sweet
As it did to burst your bubble love
When you knelt and looked above
And saw the vultures killing off all the doves
Now it seems the silver spoon
Is good for second place
But when inside of greedy mouths
It tends to leave a bitter taste
And behind imported doors
You'll make room for more
Too much is not enough
Go purchase more I do implore
Buy lots of pretty things
Have fingers draped in rings
While underneath their breath
I hear your servants start to sing
There's gonna come a day
When karma rings the bell
And your house of cards
Will have kissed the wind and finally fell
Since you're better than everyone
Because you think you've won
Every game we've played beneath the sun
But I know your little goal
Is to fill the growing hole
That will never stop until you get the gold
But when the meek and meager meet
And rest their weary feet
Paradise will never feel as sugar sweet
As it did to burst your bubble love
When you knelt and looked above
And saw the vultures killing off all the doves
