Sleeping Giant

"Sleeping Giant"
2010

I recognize the current look
You now wear
But still I'll ask, "what's wrong?"
To prove I care
But your response has gotten old
And worn down
And I won't stop until your walls
Are torn down
Should I let the sleeping giant lie
Or should I wake it
Cause I see my lover suffering
And I can't take it
The past she has buried deep inside
Has not died
And like the Lazarus of lore
It will not be denied
I recognize the sight of tears
In your eyes
They're like sparkles in a stream
Under clear skies
But they are not a welcome sight
I'll chase them
In the hopes your godly smile
Will replace them
But should I let the sleeping giant lie
Or should I wake it
Cause I see my lover suffering
And I can't take it
The past she has buried deep inside
Has not died
And like the Lazarus of lore
It will not be denied
The sleeping giant is her past
The sands of time are moving fast
And they're not kind to present days
Much to both of our dismays
Still I do my best to fight
And keep the demons out of sight
But with internal wars of my own
I sympathize she feels alone
So I do my best to prove
That while this planet has to move
There is nothing that could occur
That could mean more to me than her
So darling let the sleeping giant lie
Beneath the ever changing sky
While we focus on the good
The way that lovers always should
Even though what's buried deep inside
Will not be denied
Place yourself inside my arms
And I will keep safe from harm
And we will tell this Lazarus of lore
That it's not welcome anymore...
