Emotionless Expression

"Emotionless Expression"
2010

An emotionless expression
Is all my face has worn
Ever since that fateful day
When my spoken words were torn
Straight from my bashful throat
By inspiration's heavy hand
And they were revealed in such a way
You could barely understand
That sometimes these metaphors
Disguise what's really there
Just to blind your eyes a bit
In case you're lacking care
For this tired heart of mine
That often stains my favorite sleeve
Like a secret left so blatant that
You're too timid to believe
That sometimes reality is blurred
By the grips of your denial
And it's the state of chivalry
To be convicted without a trial
For this once proud part of life
Has withered up and died
When so many men have often failed
Every time that they have tried
To show that sometimes these metaphors
Disguise what's really there
Just to blind your eyes a bit
In case you're lacking care
For this tired soul that stands before
Your eyes that fail to see
That the secret left so blatant was
The fact you mean the world to me
But alas this crazy world revolves
And I am meaningless to you
But still I fight to change your mind
I mean, what else is there to do
But my efforts are all for naught
And I choke on my disdain
For the hollow hope this fool once held
Gave way to a pain that has a name
And it's one that's better off
Unknown to the souls who'd ask
'Cause rebuilding after I've been broken down
Has become my daily task
And the reason for this expression
That erased the smile I used to wear
For even shore lines will erode with time
And it's our true natures that we'll bare.
