There are some truths that we will find
And some truths we'll forever seek
And they are some things that we believe
But we wouldn't dare to speak
For we risk being ostracized by those
We say will matter least
Who can override our sense of pride
And bring out our inner beast
For we humans are a foolish lot
Who will fight our every urge
Believing that we'll be condemned to hell
It's our instincts we will purge
And we curse our constant thoughts of lust
As sins better left confessed
And that is why we feel the sting of shame
Every time we get undressed
And it's because the weight of guilt
Has made us all its' slave
So we look to their provided books
To see how we should behave
But like so many things in this tired world
Those books were made by man
Who too engaged in the very sins
They condemned with pen in hand
So when stone is reduced to rubble
And glass reduced to shards
We're just supposed to smile and thank
The dealer for our cards
And never question why this hand
Has landed on our lives
Ensuring we won't see what's up the sleeve
Or see what we're denied
And it's our worldly pleasures
They will call eternal crimes
While singing hymns and wearing grins
'Cause the reasons lack their rhymes
Yet most digest these fallacies
As if they're carved in stone
And thrown down from righteous clouds
To make our world their home
Instead of learning of the councils past
Who would sit and then debate
Which new god would win their vote to
Rule over every dinner plate
For eating meat on certain days
Can escort you to the flames
But most dear souls are blind to see it's
Just another of their games
But it's now I will leave you love
For your eyes they long for wool
That was draped across them long ago
So you often beg me not to pull
And it's a request that I will heed
For I know how much you need
To rest your head on what they've said
As you consume your wine and bread
But just recall in the future dear
I tried to help you see the truth
As you were held captive by a fear
That tried to suffocate your youth
So yes, there are many things in life I know
But only one I know for certain
The things you'll accept are only on the stage
And they're never behind the curtain...
