Had Enough?

"Had Enough?"
2010

Standing in a malestrom of life
And the clouds are starting to break
But I'm still reaching that level
Where I've had too much to take
And I'm known for suffering the wrong
In the hopes of proving I'm right
But I refuse to be passive in wars
To prove that I'm not scared to fight
But sometimes the smart move
Is to prove that I'm no fool
Retreating has purpose
When bravery is worthless
It's the only cowards
Who are lacking the power
To stop the battle say,
"I've had enough for today."
Standing in a hail storm I'm right
And the crowds are starting to part
But I'm still reaching that level
Where revenge has been known to start
And I'm known for bearing the burdens
That I'm too proud to lay down
Because this world can upend me
And I'm too proud to stay down
But sometimes the smart move
Is to prove that I'm no fool
Retreating has purpose
When bravery is worthless
It's the only cowards
Who are lacking the power
To stop the battle say,
"I've had enough for today."
Collecting thoughts has its' worth
Like heeding advice
Because your impluses leave you
Paying too great of a price
So stop, look, and listen
To what is occuring
And then you'll be the victor
To which the world is referring
When they say that sometimes the smart move
Is to prove that you're no fool
Retreating has purpose
When bravery is worthless
It's the only cowards
Who are lacking the power
To stop the battle say,
"I've had enough for today."
But sometimes the signs are obscured
Or they lie just out of sight
So we must fight through the darkness
To obtain just a sliver of light
'Cause no one is perfect
We've all thrown stones at the glass
But that doesn't mean we should give
Those who'd destroy us a pass
Because just turning our cheeks
Will leave most of us bruised
And sometimes our fists
Will feel better when used
But sometimes the smart move
Is to prove that you're no fool
Retreating has purpose
When bravery is worthless
It's the only cowards
Who are lacking the power
To stop the battle say,
"I've had enough for today."
When you open your eyes
Do you just look to the skies
Or do you look for the truth
To help you clear out the lies
Do you look at the way things are going
Would you say that they're rough
Tell me, when you look around
Have you had enough?
