This was a poem that I was really having fun writing. For some strange reason, I got on a roll and ended up getting stuck. So I saved what I had with the intentions of going back to it. But here it is, almost 3 years later, and for some reason or another, I haven't touched it again. But I really like the way the words were coming together. So I definitely plan on revisiting this in the near future, keep your eyes peeled, lol.
"Beneath The Dream"
2010
My sweet imagination
Is bleeding on the real
And it tends to leave a wound
That never wants to heal
So I see my visions
As they slowly wilt and peel
Like the suicidal petals
We crush beneath our heel, but...
Beneath the layers of a dream
Lie the truths we long to hide
Things are never what they seem
Unless they're viewed from deep inside
And I erect these altars
So you could have a pedestal
Now that every thought of you
Has become a shortened festival
Where we can kneel and worship
All that we thought you were
Oh, but when that veil finally slips
We'll get to see what does occur
Beneath the layers of a dream
Lie the truths we long to hide
Things are never what they seem
Unless they're viewed from deep inside
So as we raise our shovels
To softly pierce the dirt
Whatever we discover
Is surely bound to hurt
