2009
I've reached into a reservoir of words
To find the perfect ones to say
But the phrase that she deserves
Just seems to drift away
So it's replaced with subtleties
That leave humor in their place
But I die a little more inside
When I see that look upon her face
Because I've come to realize
That we've opened up our eyes
But still we're blind, and cannot find
The truth beyond our spoken lies
Because we're like butterflies trapped inside
A collector's empty jar
He'll never know why we chose to fly
He just likes seeing where we are
And as we crash into the one
We once tried to give our love
When everything is said and done
He'll just look down from above
As we fly into the glass
And seal our discomfort with a kiss
Upon the clearest prison walls
Lies a trail the blind could never miss
We thrash and touch the other's wings
But still haven't learned to feel
Enough sympathy to give the space
That the other needs to heal
Because I've come to realize
That we've opened up our eyes
But still we're blind, and cannot find
The truth beyond our spoken lies
Because we're like butterflies trapped inside
A collector's empty jar
He'll never know why we chose to fly
He just likes seeing where we are
And as we crash into the one
We once tried to give our love
When everything is said and done
He'll just look down from above
And shake his head in disbelief.
