Through The Windows

"Through The Windows"
2009

If the eyes are windows to the soul,
How best are hearts described?
And do they still contain the fingerprints,
That we've both longed to hide?
For it's best to not let others see
The cherished markings on our lives
In fear their hands will slay the bee
And steal the honey from our hives
But fear not my triumphant queen
The way to happiness is clear
You must follow my heart's monologue
That grows louder when you're near
And as the echoes reverberate
I feel the windows tremble with delight
For they've not long been open wide
And it brings them pain to see the light
Because the light's a burden bright
Received from the heavy hand of life
And like your love, shall pierce the night
Cutting the darkness like a knife
Which was like the kind of blade
We often see upon the screens
With know-it-alls draped in fancy suits
Using chalk to trace our dreams
But this is reality my love
And the windows are open still
Hoping that you would enter them
With your warm intents to fill
This expanding void inside of me
Whose speed has slowed to crawls
Due to the efforts of the one
For whom I'm bound to fall
Who once said my grip was sure to slip
On one day in a given year
Because I was holding on much too tight
And choking all I considered dear
But alas some things take long to change
For we're all slaves to time
And it's eternal hands will bind the wrist
As it once did to mine
But thankfully I am pulling free
With the aid you give me love
And it's this stagnant state of mind
That you've helped me rise above
So as this ink begins to dry
And these windows close for sleep
You remain alive behind the shades
Like a living secret that I keep
For you dance inside my mind
Like the clouds and angels do
And I have you to thank for my seeing life
The way I have always seen you
A work of God... seen through the windows.
